Overview of Camera
Taking photos and capturing video clips along with audio are easy with the
cameras on your device.
Your device has two built-in cameras:
- Main camera: A rear 3 megapixel CMOS camera for capturing
high resolution pictures and video clips with audio
- 2nd camera: A front camera for video calls and self-portrait
shooting

To open the Camera program, do either of the following:
- Press the CAMERA button on your device.
- Tap Start > Programs > Camera.
To exit the Camera program, tap
on the Camera screen.

Capture modes
The Camera is set to the Photo capture mode by default. The upper left
corner of the screen displays the active capture mode. To switch to other capture
modes, do either of the following:
- Tap
or
on the Camera screen.
- Press NAVIGATION left or right (Landscape orientation).
The available capture modes of the Main camera are as follows:
Photo
Captures standard still images.
Video
Captures video clips, with or without accompanying audio.
MMS Video
Captures video clips suitable for sending via MMS.
Contacts Picture
Captures a still image and gives you the option to immediately assign
it as a Photo ID for a contact.
Panorama
Ideal for taking scenery or composite shots. Captures and stitches several
shots (3, 4, 5, or 6) into a single image.
Picture Theme
Captures still images and places them within frames.
Sports
Ideal for taking pictures of a subject or object in motion. Captures consecutive
shots (3, 5, 7, or 10) automatically.
Burst
Continuously captures consecutive shots (maximum 30) while the CAMERA
button or the ENTER button in NAVIGATION is kept pressed.
When using the 2nd camera to capture, you can only use Photo, Video,
MMS Video, Contacts Picture, and Picture Theme modes.
Note: The 2nd camera may only be available in some devices.

Use the following device buttons and on-screen controls to
capture photos or video clips and modify camera settings.
Auto-focus function
The camera comes with an auto-focus function to let you capture sharp and crisp
photos and videos of your subjects. Depending on the option you have chosen
in Shoot Option, you will need to either press the CAMERA button half-way
or all the way to take a photo or to start capturing video.
When you press the CAMERA or ENTER button, the Camera starts to focus on the
subject, indicated by a flashing bracket (
).
When focus is set, the bracket changes to a steady green bracket (
).
To change the Shoot Option, tap
>
and then tap Shoot
Option. You can choose either Full Press or Half Press.
Note: The Shoot Option only applies to the CAMERA button. Pressing
the ENTER button automatically takes the shot.
CAMERA and ENTER buttons
Use the CAMERA or ENTER button as the shutter release when taking photos or
shooting videos.
- Press the CAMERA button or ENTER button to take a photo or contacts picture.
- Press the CAMERA button or ENTER button to start recording video; press
it again to stop recording.
- Press the CAMERA button or ENTER button when taking each shot in Picture
Theme or Panorama mode.
- Press the CAMERA button or ENTER button to take consecutive shots in Sports
mode, then move your device to follow the movement of your subject.
- Press and hold the CAMERA button or the ENTER button when taking consecutive shots in Burst mode. Release the button to stop taking shots.
NAVIGATION Control
- Press NAVIGATION up or down or rotate the NAVIGATION WHEEL clockwise or
counterclockwise to increase or decrease the zoom level.
Note: The availability of zoom depends on the Resolution you
have selected.
- Press NAVIGATION left or right to go to the previous or next sequential
capture mode. For more information, see Capture

On-screen controls and indicators
The on-screen controls and indicators are displayed for a few seconds only
and then disappear from the Camera screen. To bring up the on-screen controls
and indicators again, touch or tap the screen, or press NAVIGATION up/down/left/right.
At the top of the Camera screen, you will see the following on-screen controls
and indicators:
- Mode Switching control. Tap the left/right arrow (
or
) on the screen to switch the capture
mode.
- Remaining information indicator. Shows the remaining number of pictures
that can be taken or the remaining duration of video that can be recorded
based on the current camera settings. While recording video, this shows the
recording duration.
- Exit. Tap
to exit the Camera program.
On the left and right sides of the Camera screen, you will see the following:
- Zoom control. Tapping
or
on the screen allows you to zoom in or zoom out. This control only appears
when zooming is supported by the Resolution you have selected.
Note: You can also press NAVIGATION up or down or rotate the NAVIGATION
WHEEL clockwise or counterclockwise to increase or decrease the zoom level.
- Template Selector icon. In Picture Theme mode, tap
to toggle among the different templates.
At the bottom of the Camera screen, you will see the following:
- Album. Tap
to view the photos and
videos on your device and/or storage card.
- Progress indicator. In Picture Theme, Panorama, Sports, and Burst
modes, this shows the total number of consecutive shots.
- Menu. Tap
to open the
Camera Settings Menu.

Quick Settings Panel
The Quick Settings Panel provides a quick way of adjusting the most common
camera settings. Tap anywhere on the Camera screen to open the Quick Settings
Panel. Tap again on the screen to close the panel.
Note: The available settings on the panel depend on the capture mode selected.
- Resolution. The resolution icon
Indicates the current resolution. Tap to toggle among the different resolution
options:

- White Balance. Tap to toggle among the different white balance settings:
Auto

Daylight
, Night

Incandescent
, and
Fluorescent

- Brightness. Tapping the minus/plus icon (
/
) decreases or increases the brightness
level.
- Storage. Tap to toggle between saving captured photos or video clips
on the device memory
or on a memory card
.
- Camera. Choose whether to use the Main camera or the 2nd camera when
taking pictures or shooting videos. There are three modes you can choose from:
Main Camera
3 megapixel CMOS camera that is at the back panel of the device, used
for taking standard pictures and videos.
2nd Camera
Camera at the upper right corner of the front panel of the device, used
for shooting self-portrait pictures and videos.
2nd Camera (Flip)
Used for taking self-portrait pictures and videos without mirroring.
If there is text on your self-portrait shot (for example, if you're wearing
a shirt with text), the text appears inverted on the captured image/video
in 2nd Camera mode. Use 2nd Camera (Flip)
mode to invert your self-portrait so that the text is readable on the
captured image/video.
- Self-timer. Tap to set the Self-timer to 2 seconds,
10 seconds, or Off when in the Photo or
Contacts Picture mode. When you press the ENTER button or the CAMERA button
to capture a still image, it starts to count down and then captures a still
image after the assigned time.

The Review screen
After taking a still image or recording a video clip, you can view the image
or video clip on the Review screen. In addition, you can tap the icons at the
bottom of the Review screen to delete a captured image or video, send it via
e-mail, and more.
- Back. Tap
to go back to Camera screen.
- Delete. Tap
to remove the captured image or video.
- Send. Tap
to send the captured image or video via e-mail or MMS.
- View. Tap
to view the captured photo or play the captured video.
- Assign to Contacts. Tap
to associate the photo to a selected contact.
- Browse. After you have taken photos in Sports or
Burst mode, the total number of consecutive shots is shown in the upper
right corner of the Review screen. Tap the up/down arrow (
) to browse through the sequence of photos.
You can set the time length for displaying the captured image/video on the Review screen:
- Tap
to open the Camera Settings
Menu.
- On the Camera Settings Menu, tap
to display the Advanced submenu.
- Tap Review Duration, then tap the desired time length for displaying
captured image/video frame on the Review screen. Select No Limit
if you do not want to impose a time limit. Select No Review
to immediately return to the live Camera screen after capturing.
- Tap OK.

Zoom
Before taking a picture or shooting video, you can zoom in on your subject
by pressing NAVIGATION up on your device or by tapping the Zoom In
button (
) above the Zoom Bar. When the zooming
limit is reached, you will hear a beep. To zoom out, press NAVIGATION down or
tap the Zoom Out button(
).
Note: You can also press NAVIGATION up or down or rotate the NAVIGATION
WHEEL clockwise or counterclockwise to increase or decrease the zoom level.
The camera zoom range for a picture or a video clip depends on the capture
mode and resolution. The following table lists the zoom range for the Main camera:

Camera Settings Menu
Before capturing a still image or video clip using any capture modes, tap
to open the Camera Settings Menu.
The Camera Settings Menu allows you to configure the capture settings.
The Camera Settings Menu consists of two submenus: Capture Settings
and Advanced. To switch between the two submenus, either tap
the submenu name or press NAVIGATION left/right.
If there are more than one page of settings in a submenu, tap the page number
to go to the next page or keep pressing NAVIGATION down.

Capture Settings Menu
- Template (Picture Theme). Select a template to use.
- Effect. Choose a special effect such as Grayscale, Sepia,
etc., to apply to your photos or video clips.
Note: White Balance cannot be applied if an Effect has
already been applied.
- Time Stamp (Photo, Sports and Burst). Choose whether or not to include
the shooting date and time on captured photos.
- Quality (Photo, Contacts Picture, Panorama, Sports, and Burst). Select
the JPEG image quality level for all captured still images. You can choose
from Basic, Normal, Fine, and Super
Fine.
- Metering Mode. Select a metering mode to allow the camera to measure
the amount of light in the center and around the image and calculate the best-fit
exposure value before capturing. Choose either Center Area to measure
light using the center area of the image or Average to measure light
using the area all around the image.
- Storage. Select where you want to save your files. You
can either save the files to the main memory or to a storage card.
- Capture Speed (Sports and Burst). This determines the interval
between shots. Fast captures consecutive shots at the shortest
interval.
- Snapshots (Sports). Select the number of consecutive shots
to capture.
In Panorama only:
- Direction. Choose in what direction images will be stitched
in a panorama.
- Stitch Count. Select the desired number of snapshots to
be taken and stitched into a panorama.

Advanced Menu
- Capture Format. Select the desired file format.
- Shutter Sound. Choose whether or not you want the camera
to make a shutter sound when you press the ENTER button or CAMERA button to
take photos or record video clips.
- Shoot Option. The camera comes with an auto-focus feature
that is activated when the CAMERA or ENTER button is pressed. Selecting Full
Press requires you to press the CAMERA button all the way to take the shot
after auto-focus is set. Selecting Half Press automatically takes the shot
after auto-focus is set.
Note: This option only applies to the CAMERA button. Pressing
the ENTER button automatically takes the shot.
- Grid (Photo only). Choose whether or not to show a grid
on the Camera screen. Showing a grid helps you frame and center your subject
more easily and accurately.
- Keep Backlight. Choose whether to turn the backlight on
or off while using the camera. This overrides your device backlight settings
while you are using the camera.
- Review Duration. Set a time length for displaying the
captured image/video on the Review screen before automatically saving it and
returning to the live Camera screen. Select No Limit if you
do not want to impose a time limit. Select No Review to immediately
return to the live Camera screen after capturing.
- Flicker Adjustment. When taking indoor shots, flicker
on the camera screen may be caused by inconsistencies between the vertical
scan rate of the camera display and the flicker frequency of fluorescent lighting.
To reduce flicker, you can change the flicker adjustment setting to Auto
or to the proper frequency (50Hz or 60Hz)
of the country where your device is being used.
- Record with Audio (Video and MMS Video mode). Select On
to record audio while capturing video clips. This is selected On
by default. If you select Off and then capture a video clip,
it will have no audio.
- Prefix. When Default is selected as the
prefix, the file name of each new captured file is set to “IMAGE”
or “VIDEO” followed by a sequential number, for example: IMAGE_001.jpg.
You may also choose to name files using either the current Date
or Date & Time as the prefix.
Note: If you set the Camera to save captured photos to a
storage card, the prefix cannot be selected. Captured photos will be named
using the convention IMAGnnnn.jpg (where 'nnnn' is the counter) which is the
DCIM (Digital Camera Images) naming standard, and will be saved to the \DCIM\100MEDIA
folder on the storage card.
- Counter. To reset the file naming counter back to 1, tap
Reset.
- Recording Limit (Video mode). Specify the maximum duration
or file size for recording video.
- Template Folder. (Picture Theme only). By default, templates
are stored in the \My Documents\Templates folder on the device's Main
Memory. If you transferred some templates to a storage card (via
File Explorer), set this option to Main + Card to specify
that templates are located in both the main memory and the storage card.
- Image Properties. This option allows you to adjust the
camera display properties, such as Contrast, Saturation,
Hue, and Sharpness.
- Show Reminder (Contacts Picture only). Select On
if you want the Camera to always display a message that confirms whether or
not to assign the captured picture to a contact.
