If the check box is unavailable, your system administrator has set a fixed or maximum duration.
Tips
- A strong alphanumeric password provides more security than a simple PIN because it’s more difficult to guess.
- You can always make emergency calls, even when your phone is locked. To avoid accidentally placing emergency calls, make sure you don’t begin your password with the digits of the local emergency services phone number.
- If you use your phone on your organization’s intranet, a system administrator may require you to set a PIN or password the first time you connect. If you are prompted to set a PIN or password when you connect to an intranet, the steps to set it up may be slightly different.

A SIM is a smart card that stores your telephone account information. Your phone becomes programmed immediately when you insert the SIM card. Your mobile operator will supply you with the PIN.
If you enable a SIM PIN, you must enter the PIN every time that you turn on your phone.
If this is the first time that you are entering a SIM PIN, enter the default PIN, which you can usually find on the mobile operator website. Common default values are 1234 and 1111.
Tip
To disable a PIN for your SIM card, clear the Require PIN when phone is used check box, etner your PIN, and then tap Enter.
If you enter the wrong PIN 3 times, you’ll be asked to enter a Personal Identification Number Unblocking Key (PUK). To the the PUK for your phone, contact your mobile operator.
