Turn Wi-Fi on or off

If your provider allows wireless connections on your phone, you can turn on Wi-Fi when you are near a wireless signal and access the Internet.

To minimize drain on the battery, Wi-Fi is turned off automatically every time that you turn off your phone. You must turn it on again when you want to use it.

  1. Tap Start > Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi.
  2. If no networks appear in the list automatically, tap Search for Networks.
  3. Select the network you want to connect to.
  4. In the Connects to list, select Internet or Work.
  5. If the network is hidden, select the This is a hidden network check box. If you are connecting to another device, select the This is a device-to-device (ad-hoc) connection check box.
  6. Tap Next.
  7. Select your Network Authentication settings, then tap Next. The default choices are often appropriate.
  8. Tap Finish.

Note

If you select a secure network, you may have to enter a network key that is provided by your system administrator.
